School Policies & Procedures
ATTENDANCE
It is extremely important that your child attends school. If possible, please schedule appointments after school hours or during school holidays. If your child is ill, please let the school know. If your child becomes ill at school, you, or the person(s) designated on the emergency blue card, will be contacted. If your child will be out for three (3) days or more, please inform both the school and the bus driver. This will ensure that there is no disruption of bus service. Parents will be notified in writing about half-days and holidays. The calendar included in this handbook also lists the days the school is closed.
EMERGENCY DRILLS
Fire and shelter drills are held periodically throughout the school year to ensure that our students and staff are familiar with the procedures in case of an emergency.
INCLEMENT WEATHER/STORM DAY PROCEDURES
In the event of emergency conditions, such as weather emergencies or school wide emergencies, please tune in to local radio and television stations, the NYC DOE website or call 311 to get information.
STUDENT SIGN IN & OUT PROCEDURES
- Students not arriving on the school bus must be signed in by the individual dropping them off.
- Please try to let your child’s teacher know in advance if you are planning to pick him/her up early. No child will be released without a valid signature. Children will only be released to individuals listed on the Emergency Blue Card.
- Students arriving late on public transportation should report to the main office for a late pass.
MEDICATION POLICY
During school hours, students may have their medication given to them by the school nurse. However, their Medication Administration Record (504 Form) (2016-2017), must be filled out and signed by the doctor and parent. All medication must be in appropriate containers and properly labeled by the pharmacy or physician and the dosage schedule.
Please make sure that you renew your child’s prescription before it runs out.
IMMUNIZATION REQUIREMENTS
The New York State Department of Education and the Board of Health requires that documentation be secured proving that all children who come to school are fully immunized. We are required to exclude children not immunized and do not have documentation from a physician indicating this is the case.
If your child becomes sick in school…
The school will contact you immediately. It is your responsibility to come to school and pick up your child. If you are unavailable, the person listed on the emergency blue card will be contacted.
Do not send the child to school if he/she has…
Fever 100°C or higher | Ear ache | Upset Stomach |
Infected skin patches | Sore Throat | “Pink Eye” (Conjunctivitis) |
Swollen glands | Head lice | Vomiting or Diarrhea |
Unusual spots or rashes | Persistent cough |
By keeping him/her home, you are not only helping him/her to get well faster, you are also preventing the illness from spreading to other members of the class. Let the school know as soon as possible that your child is ill. When your child returns to school, give him/her a note for the teacher explaining the absence.
If Your Child Has:
Condition | He/She Must Be Kept out of School: |
---|---|
Chicken Pox | 6 days after appearance of rash |
Rubella (German Measles) | Until rash has disappeared |
Measles | 5 days after appearance of rash |
Mumps | Until all the swelling of the glands has disappeared |
Whooping Cough | 14 days after whoop begins |
Hepatitis | Until temperature has become normal |
Meningitis | Until temperature has become normal |
Streptococcal Sore Throat | Until temperature has become normal (including Scarlet Fever) |
If you have more questions about medicine/your child’s health during school hours contact the school nurse.

Parent Training Policy
Parents and Guardians,
Welcome to P. 75Q!
Please take note of the procedures to address family counseling and support needs:
- All new IEPs are reviewed by the IEP coordinators
- New students are referred to guidance staff based on caseload availability and/ or student need
- The Parent Coordinator will provide a monthly calendar to parents that states all current group service activities and parental supports (i.e. OPWDD) that are being offered. These offerings are also located on the school’s website.
- Additional information may be sent home via flyer, paper mail, email, or telephone communication
- All Related Service Staff (OT, PT, Speech, IEP) will provide multiple workshops for all parents, so they may gain a better understanding of student needs, and services being rendered.
- Parents that are specifically entitled to parental counseling services will be contacted by P.75Q IEP personnel.
- During that initial conversation, they will ascertain what meeting dates and times are both convenient for the parent, as well as timely to insure student goals are addressed and so appropriate staff members can be available.
- Follow-up outreach will be initiated by 75Q staff to insure clarity of all parental concerns.
- All needs will be addressed on a case-by-case basis.
- Parents may request additional individual sessions by contacting the Parent Coordinator, Rossi Ramos. She will in turn notify the appropriate staff to ascertain the family’s needs.
It is our responsibility at P.75Q to prepare students and families with the tools necessary to thrive in a multi-faceted society. Through rigorous instruction, life skills support, and socio emotional enrichment, we are dedicated to the development of our scholars and families. We are committed to providing all services necessary to the accomplishment of that goal!
